Oakland A’s starter Sean Manaea goes on disabled list, Eric Surkamp recalled

The Oakland Athletics have placed starting pitcher Sean Manaea on the 15-day disabled list with a left pronator strain, the club announced today. The A’s recalled left-hander Eric Surkamp, who was scheduled to start Tuesday’s contest in place of Rich Hill anyway.

Manaea came out of Tuesday’s contest in the fifth inning indicating problems with his forearm, and a preliminary examination indicated a strain in the pronator muscle. He was reportedly getting an MRI today to check for underlying damage to the ulnar collateral ligament, which would be a much more serious issue. From last night’s post-game:

Manaea says Doctor exam tonight shows no ligament damage, just muscle.
