Oakland A’s reportedly interested in starter Mike Fiers

The Oakland A’s have expressed interest in Tigers starting pitcher Mike Fiers, reported Jon Morosi of MLB Network on Sunday. He says the two sides haven’t had serious talks yet, though. Morosi also cited a previous report by Chris McCosky of Detroit News linking Oakland to the hurler.

It’s no secret the A’s are in the market for starting pitching at this year’s trade deadline. They’re in postseason contention despite a disappointing season for their current rotation, and so beefing up the staff with another veteran starter could be a big help. In the meantime, with prices looking high, they settled for adding a new lockdown reliever over the weekend (Mets closer Jeurys Familia), but there could still be more moves coming.
