The Oakland A’s recalled Mark Canha from Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday, the team announced. To make room on the 25-man roster, outfielder Jaff Decker was designated for assignment.
Canha opened the season in Oakland but got off to an ice-cold start: 2-for-19, no walks, six strikeouts, and some questionable defense in the outfield. That earned him a trip down to the minors to get back on track, and to his credit he did just that in 19 games of everyday play.
Canha, AAA*: .232/.345/.507, 122 wRC+, 5 HR, 11.9% BB, 19.0% Ks
* in 84 plate appearances
Meanwhile, Decker was signed as a minor league free agent last winter and impressed during spring training.
