The Oakland A’s placed third baseman Matt Chapman on the disabled list, the team announced Saturday. The move is retroactive to Friday. To take his spot on the roster, top infield prospect Franklin Barreto was called up from Triple-A. In addition to all that, the bullpen swapped out a tired arm for a new one, as reliever Carlos Ramirez was optioned down and Josh Lucas was called up.
In a season full of injuries, this is one of the most costly yet. Chapman is the A’s best player and the leader of the young core they’re developing, so losing him for any amount of time is a big blow.
