That wasn’t quite how anyone was hoping Daulton Jefferies’ debut would go.
The Oakland A’s right-hander got knocked around in his first appearance in the majors, and the Texas Rangers came out on top 5-2 in the first half of a Saturday doubleheader in Arlington.
All of Texas’ scoring came in the 1st inning, as the Rangers batted around. One of Jefferies’ strengths in the minors was his ability to limit walks, but he issued a free pass to the first batter he faced and then another to the fourth batter. Rougned Odor followed with a three-run homer to cash in on both walks, and then another single and a homer by Ronald Guzman made it a five-run frame.
