The Oakland Athletics called up C-OF-1B Matt McBride from Triple-A Nashville, sending reliever Andrew Triggs back to Triple-A Nashville.
The Oakland Athletics have selected the contract of catcher-outfielder-first baseman Matt McBride from Triple-A Nashville, optioning reliever Andrew Triggs to Triple-A Nashville. To create room for McBride on the 40-man roster, pitcher Felix Doubront was transferred to the 60-day disabled list (Tommy John surgery).
McBride becomes the third catcher on Oakland's 40-man roster, and the beat writers have some speculation as to why the call up here:
I presume McBride called up so both Vogt and Phegley can be used without fear of needing an emergency catcher.
