The Oakland A’s activated pitcher Trevor Cahill from the disabled list on Wednesday, the team announced. The right-hander will start tonight’s game against the Red Sox. To make room on the roster, outfielder Jake Smolinski was optioned to Triple-A Nashville.
Cahill threw a gem in his last outing on May 5, striking out a career-high 12 batters in six scoreless innings, but afterward he went on the 10-day DL with an elbow impingement. Now he’s back after missing just one start, with Kendall Graveman briefly returning from the minors to cover for him last week.
