SAN FRANCISCO – These final three exhibitions may not count in the standings, but A’s manager Bob Melvin feels the Bay Bridge Series has true value for his team.
It gives the platoon-heavy A’s a chance to get acclimated to how the regular season will go, with several players swapping in and out of the lineup based on whether the opponent starts a righty or a lefty. Melvin said five or so players who aren’t in Thursday’s night’s series-opening lineup will be starting Friday.
“These three games we need to see how all our pieces fit,” Melvin said.
