Notes: A's Alvarez to make Single-A rehab start Wednesday

NEW YORK – A’s right-hander Henderson Alvarez will begin a minor league rehab assignment Wednesday with a 45-pitch outing for Single-A Stockton.

It will be the first official game for Alvarez since he underwent shoulder surgery in July while he was still with the Miami Marlins. There’s no word yet on how many starts he’ll make with the Ports or when he’ll move up to a higher level in the minors.

Manager Bob Melvin estimated Alvarez will throw 45 pitches or three innings Wednesday. The plan is to get him up to around 100 pitches by the time he is ready to join the big league club.
