ANAHEIM — Henderson Alvarez will rest his problematic throwing shoulder for another three weeks, and it appears the A’s wouldn’t get the right-hander back until August at the earliest.
Alvarez received a platelet-rich plasma injection in his shoulder a week ago, and the plan is for him not to pick up a baseball for a full month. He’s one week into that schedule, meaning he’ll have three more weeks of non-activity. That takes things into mid-July, just after the All-Star break, and given the time he’ll need to build his arm strength back up, it stands to reason Alvarez won’t make his A’s debut before the calendar turns to August.
