The A’s haven’t had a day game for their season opener since 1994, and judging by the estimates of Thursday’s crowd, they might not have one again for some time.

According to several team sources, even with perfect baseball weather, the A’s are expecting about 25,000 Thursday, and Friday night’s “Opening Night” also is expected to fall far short of a sellout, despite pre-game ceremonies honoring the top 50 players in team history.
