HOUSTON — Jesús Luzardo last pitched Friday with the Las Vegas Aviators — 5.2 innings with seven strikeouts, to be exact.
That means Luzardo should be ready to make his big league debut as early as Wednesday. And manager Bob Melvin on Wednesday sounded intent on not messing with a starter’s routine.
“I’d like to get him in, yeah,” Melvin said. “I don’t want him sitting around too long. Guys are used to routines as a starter and pitching on a certain day. So whether it’s today or tomorrow, yeah I’d like to get him in really quickly.
