MESA, Ariz. — The A’s entered spring training with a surplus of outfielders and they’re going to need it.
Nick Martini, the left fielder who emerged last season an on-base machine and key leadoff man throughout the A’s playoff run, is going to be shut down from all baseball activities for the next two weeks with a right knee sprain.
Martini, 28, sustained the injury in Tuesday’s game after crashing into the left-field wall at Hohokam Stadium after tripping over his cleat while attempting to chase down a foul ball.
“He was coming off a good year and having a good spring again,” A’s manager Bob Melvin said.
