DENVER - With Oakland’s bullpen spent after four long games in the heat at Texas, the A’s had to improvise a little.

Starter Sean Manaea went five innings in the A’s 3-1 loss to the Rockies on Friday before coming out for a pinch hitter in the National League park, and little-used J.B. Wendelken grinded out tw0 scoreless innings, allowing a double and a walk in the sixth but striking out two, including getting leadoff man Charlie Blackmon on three pitches in the sixth.
