Put the new guy right to work, that was the A’s plan Sunday at the Coliseum.
Jeurys Familia — acquired from the Mets for Triple-A reliever Bobby Wahl, Class A third baseman William Toffey and $1 million in international slot money — arrived about 90 minutes before Oakland’s game against the Giants and entered in the ninth, worked two innings and got the win.
“You can see the energy and the excitement in the team, and that made me feel really comfortable to be here,” Familia said.
“Typically, those type of guys are used to coming into games with the lead,” manager Bob Melvin said.
