ST. PETERSBURG -- Athletics right-hander Edward Mujica was forced to leave the Rays' 3-0 victory Thursday night with two outs in the seventh inning after taking a hard one-hopper off his pitching hand.
Mujica was able to throw out Rays catcher Bobby Wilson at first -- with Brandon Guyer scoring from third -- on the play, but suffered a laceration and "a minor fracture" of his right thumb. He received stitches after an X-ray revealed the fracture, and left Tropicana Field with his thumb wrapped in a bandage.
"Just trying to put my glove there, and it got me right in the thumb," Mujica said.
