Mother of A’s Stephen Piscotty dies at 55 of Lou Gehrig’s disease

Gretchen Piscotty, the mother of A’s outfielder Stephen Piscotty, has died, according to ESPN.

Stephen Piscotty, who grew up in Pleasanton and attended Stanford, requested a trade from the St. Louis Cardinals to the Oakland A’s during the offseason to be closer to his mother, who was suffering from Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Gretchen Piscotty died Sunday night, ESPN reported. She was 55. She is also survived by her husband Michael and sons Nick and Austin.
