OAKLAND — Daniel Mengden concluded a spectacular month of May and Khris Davis ignited an early three-run rally with a double in his first at-bat after coming off the disabled list Thursday in a 7-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays before 12,070 at the Coliseum.
The win enabled the A’s to improve to 4-6 on the homestand before departing on a five-game road trip to Kansas City and Texas and improving their overall record to 29-28.
Mengden was no lock to make the A’s rotation going into spring training, but has emerged as the stopper. He carried a three-hit shutout and a 25-inning scoreless streak into the ninth inning before giving up singles to C.
