ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – It came as no surprise that Frankie Montas was sent down Sunday so that the A’s could make room on the 25-man roster for Sean Doolittle.
For manager Bob Melvin, though, it was a matter of sending his only 100-mph arm down to Triple-A Nashville. Despite seeing the right-hander give up a bucket load of home runs in recent game, Melvin is a true believer when it comes to Montas.
“He’s going to be a monster in this league,” Melvin said. “I believe that. He wasn’t able to get out of a little bit of a rut.
