Matt Chapman, fresh up to the majors for the first time Thursday, had a big bases-loaded situation in the series opener against New York and struck out.
On Friday, the A’s new third baseman came up with Oakland trailing in the eighth with the bases full again. The Yankees had intentionally walked Stephen Vogt to get to him, and Jonathan Holder got two quick strikes on Chapman - who ripped a single down the third-base line to give Oakland the lead and the A’s went on to a 7-6 win over New York, the team’s second one-run victory in a row over the AL East leaders.
