Matt Chapman hits bombs in batting practice, set for debut

MESA, Ariz. — A’s third baseman Matt Chapman put his right hand to the test, and things could not have gone any better.

Taking part in his first live batting practice session since getting a cortisone shot to reduce inflammation on his right hand, Chapman showed no signs of discomfort as he launched several balls over the left field fence at Hohokam Stadium on Saturday before the A’s took on the Padres.

Manager Bob Melvin indicated before batting practice that if all went well, Chapman would likely find himself in the starting lineup Sunday when the A’s travel to Peoria for another game with the Padres.
