SEATTLE — Liam Hendriks gave up the lead with two outs in the bottom of the ninth after a single and two wild pitches advanced Mallex Smith to third base and Shed Long hit an RBI single. Crawford walked it off to give the Mariners the 4-3 win and the A’s their 30th blown save.
The A’s had already clinched a wild card spot with the Cleveland Indians’ loss to the Washington Nationals prior to first pitch in Seattle. They are now tied for home field advantage with Tampa Bay.
Matt Olson hit a two-run home run, his 36th of the year opposite field into the crisp Seattle night, to give the A’s the lead.
