Major League Baseball on Tuesday suspended Athletics outfielder Ramon Laureano six games and Houston Astros hitting coach Alex Cintron 20 games for their roles in a bench-clearing scrum, according to multiple reports.
Cintron received the stiffer penalty because he instigated Sunday's incident, reportedly by using a vile term in Spanish to insult Laureano’s mother. The 20-game suspension is the equivalent of a 54-suspension in a 162-game season. Cintron won’t be eligible to return to the dugout until Sept. 2
USA Today’s Bob Nightengale tweeted that Cintron’s suspension is believed to be the largest levied against a MLB coach.
