ANAHEIM -- A's slugger Khris Davis belted his Major League-leading 48th homer in the first inning of Saturday night's game at Angel Stadium, giving the A's a 2-0 lead on the Angels and bringing serious intrigue to his pursuit of 50.
Assuming the designated hitter starts Sunday's regular-season finale, he has at least five more at-bats to crank out two home runs, which would make him the third player in A's history to reach the 50-homer plateau. He's enjoyed multihomer games on seven occasions this year.
Davis' latest blast, a two-run shot to opposite field against Angels lefty Tyler Skaggs, also pushed his RBI total to 123, four shy of MLB leader J.
