Khris Davis powers A’s Opening Night victory

For the A’s to pin down a win on Opening Night, it generally takes something special - they’d lost 11 of the previous 12 openers, with the only victory coming via a standout performance from Sonny Gray two years ago.

Monday, that big night came from Khris Davis, who’d been quiet all spring and then unleashed two homers in Oakland’s 4-2 win over the Angels that was closed out by former Giants reliever Santiago Casilla.

Davis didn’t hit his first homer until April 20 last season and still finished with 42. He got a nice, early start Monday, with a solo blast that gave the A’s a 3-2 lead.
