PITTSBURG -- Jose Canseco, the former A's slugger and the American League's Most Valuable Player in 1988, has reached an agreement to finish the season with the Pittsburg Diamonds of the Pacific Association, the club announced Friday.
The Diamonds made the announcement Friday that Canseco will play for the month of August. The team had originally planned a Jose Canseco Golf Tournament on Aug. 5, a Jose Canseco Home Run Derby on Aug. 6 and that Canseco will pitch on Aug. 7 against the Sonoma Stompers, but renegotiated that into a half-season contract. Canseco, 52, last played in the major leagues in 2001 with the Chicago White Sox.
