PITTSBURG — Baseball’s first 40-40 man is returning to the Bay Area in late June to play ball for the independent Pittsburg Diamonds, the club announced Wednesday.
Former Oakland A’s slugger Jose Canseco will play a home series for the Diamonds from June 23-25. The signing marks the third year in a row the Diamonds have signed Canseco, who has appeared as both a designated hitter and a pitcher, with varying levels of success.
Canseco, 52, retired from the majors in 2001, with 462 home runs, and then shocked the baseball world when he penned Juice, an expose about performance enhancing drugs in baseball as told from Canseco’s perspective.
