CHICAGO - Second baseman Jed Lowrie made a surprise pinch-hit appearance in the seventh inning Sunday and smacked an RBI double, then was lifted for a pinch runner.
Lowrie’s pinch hit Sunday makes his status all the more murky. Before the game, manager Bob Melvin said Lowrie was likely to see a doctor in Houston on Monday, adding, “We might have a little better idea where we’re going with him after the offday.”
Lowrie slightly strained his right knee on an awkward swing in his second at-bat Friday. In the apparently unlikely event the A’s need to place him on the DL, they’d have four infielders out of action: third baseman Matt Chapman, shortstop Marcus Semien and utility player Chad Pinder are already on the DL.
