Oakland’s additions this spring won’t just come from the free-agent ranks. Two members of the lineup will be back in action after lengthy stays on the DL.
Infielder Jed Lowrie said via text that he is in great shape after surgery to repair a ligament in his left foot and surgery for a deviated septum, while catcher Josh Phegley texted that he is 100 percent after last summer’s knee surgery.
Phegley had several setbacks after the procedure to remove a cruciate ligament cyst from his left knee, but he now has passed all his strength and running tests and he expects to be able to catch three or four bullpen sessions a day by the time the A’s pitchers and catchers have their first workout on Feb.
