OAKLAND — Jake Smolinski just wanted a shot to play every day, whether it be in the majors or minors. He got that chance at Triple-A, and he took advantage.
Smolinski was recalled from Triple-A Nashville before Sunday’s game to give the A’s 12 position players. The outfielder earned a spot on the opening day roster, but struggled in limited playing time as he hit just .118 in 34 at-batsbefore getting optioned down May 16.
Getting regular playing time with Nashville, Smolinski seems to have found his stroke, hitting .260 with seven home runs and 12 RBIs in 21 games.
