OAKLAND – The one-step forward, two-steps back philosophy is no way to jump back into a division race. Unfortunately for the A’s, they’ve perfected that pattern.
Coming off a morale-boosting three-game sweep at Texas, the A’s returned to the Coliseum only to get swept themselves in three straight by the Kansas City Royals.
Sunday’s 5-3 defeat capped a weekend of futility for the A’s. They came in winners of five straight, hosting a Royals team that bounced them in last fall’s AL Wild Card Game. It had the makings for an intense, high-energy series, but the A’s simply did not respond.
