Peoria, Ariz. — A’s pitching phenom Jesús Luzardo enters spring training with a chance to earn a spot on the opening day roster and Friday was his first shot to make an impression.
The left-hander worked one inning against the Mariners and showed off his touted stuff as he pumped his fastball around 95-97 mph. Luzardo found himself in a bit of a jam after walking Mariners prospect Evan White to load the bases but eventually got himself out of it after inducing an inning-ending 5-4-3 double play.
Luzardo faced six batters in the inning and allowed one run on two hits with a strikeout.
