Gray pitching 'free and easy' in injury rehab

OAKLAND -- Rehabbing starter Sonny Gray is one step closer to rejoining the A's rotation after throwing a three-inning simulated game at the Coliseum on Tuesday afternoon.

Gray, who is on the disabled list with a trapezius strain, totaled 50 pitches and reported nothing but encouraging results -- not only physically, but mechanically -- after the session. The trapezius muscle gave him no issues.

"I definitely felt like the ball was coming out really well," Gray said. "It felt pretty free, nice and easy.

"I feel like my stuff, just talking to the hitters, it seemed to be coming out really well, just late life, which is kind of trying to get back to where I want to be.
