SAN DIEGO — Franklin Barreto reminded everyone why he’s still considered the top hitting prospect in the A’s system.
Barreto’s flashy combination of speed and power was on display as he finished the day 2 for 5 with a three-run home run in Wednesday’s 12-4 victory over the Padres.
It hasn’t been a pretty season for the second baseman as he was only hitting .236 at Triple-A Nashville before getting called up last week to replace an injured Matt Chapman on the roster. Now in his third stint in the big leagues this season after getting called up twice before for only limited action, Barreto admitted it’s been tough to find any type of rhythm at the plate at either level.
