Reliever Santiago Casilla helped the Giants go far during his seven seasons in San Francisco, three of which ended in World Series championships. The next part of his journey might not require him to go far at all.
Casilla is nearing a two-year deal to return to Oakland, his original team, The Chronicle has confirmed.
Presumably, Casilla would help set up A's closer Ryan Madson. Casilla’s addition also would give the A’s the flexibility to deal another experienced eliever such as Madson, Sean Doolittle or John Axford, between now and the July 31 trade deadline.
