Fifth inning again proves to be fatal for A’s

MIAMI – Five hits in a row with two out in the fifth inning in consecutive games in two different cities.

Baseball is just odd. Or maybe it’s just the A’s that are odd. Oakland’s inability to win on the road manifested itself again Tuesday night in an 8-1 loss to Miami thanks to the Marlins’ scoring four times in the fifth after there were two out.

It was just Sunday in St. Petersburg that the A’s gave up three runs in a similar situation in a 5-4 loss to the Rays.

This time around it was Jharel Cotton, who came into the fifth inning at the top of his game.
