The past and future of Oakland baseball will come together this week at a pair of book signings featuring two well-known fans of the game.
Former Baseball Hall of Fame president Jeff Idelson and author/photographer Jean Fruth will present Fruth’s new book, Grassroots Baseball: Where Legends Begin, which features more than 250 images of amateur ball from the US and across the world.
Each chapter of the book also begins with a first-person essay from one of the game’s giants, revisiting his start in baseball, according to a release, including one from the East Bay’s own Rickey Henderson and Giants greats Juan Marichal and Hensley Meulens.
