The Athletics will need to figure out who their fifth starter will be by Tuesday.
Oakland Athletics reliever Evan Scribner will not play the rest of this season after sustaining a torn lat muscle, manager Bob Melvin told A's beat writers before Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Angels (Susan Slusser, San Francisco Chronicle). Scribner was removed from Monday's game after striking out Mike Trout to lead off the top of the ninth inning.
After initially starting out as a rare bright spot in Oakland's dismal bullpen early in the season, the A's right-hander has now come to lead major league relievers in home runs allowed with 14.
