The Athletics came out on top of their division-rivals tonight, beating the AL West Seattle Mariners in a close 2-1 contest that saw an excellent start from Oakland’s young starting pitcher.
Estes dominates
The good guys went with rookie right-hander Joey Estes tonight in game two of the series. It’s been a mostly good start to his major league career up to this point, outside of his second start this season in which he gave up eight runs in less than four innings.
Tonight was the exact opposite. Facing a Mariners lineup that has underperformed to this part of the year (to the the point that they fired coach Brant Brown), Estes kept Seattle completely in check, locking down the Seattle offense for six perfect innings.
