Eric Chavez joins Angels front office as special assistant

Former A’s third baseman Eric Chavez is joining an American League West rival.

The six-time Gold Glover has been hired by the Los Angeles Angels as a special assistant to new general manager Billy Eppler.

Chavez played two seasons with the Yankees after leaving Oakland following the 2010 campaign, and he worked for New York last season as a special assistant after he retired. He therefore has a connection to Eppler, who was the Yankees’ assistant GM before being hired by the Angels earlier this month.

Chavez moonlighted part-time last season in the A’s TV booth, doing color commentary on 20 broadcasts.
