Don Baylor, a former American League MVP and a member of the A’s 1988 World Series team, died Monday of cancer. He was 68.
“Don passed from this earth with the same fierce dignity with which he played the game and lived his life,” his wife, Rebecca, told ESPN.
Baylor battled multiple myeloma for the past 14 years, according to his family.
One of baseball’s most feared and respected players before embarking on a long coaching career, Baylor closed his 19-year career playing in three consecutive World Series with three different teams — the Red Sox (1986), Twins (’87) and A’s (’88), earning a title with Minnesota.
