America's pastime has a new baby daddy, or something like that.
Documents put up for auction this week indicate that baseball was invented earlier than believed and not by Alexander Cartwright, long credited with founding the modern game.Instead, the sport's rightful father is Daniel Lucius "Doc" Adams. This all comes courtesy of the Associated Press, which reported on the sale of documents that Adams called "Rules of Base Ball.''They were written in 1857 — three years earlier than the birth date currently recognized as official.Adams was the president of the New York Knickerbockers Base Ball Club, which hosted a convention of New York clubs to codify the rules, according to the AP.
