We don’t know yet what provoked Ramón Laureano’s headlong dash toward the Astros’ dugout Sunday, but at least one report suggested that Houston’s hitting coach made a nasty comment about Laureano’s mother.
Tweeted MLB insider Jose de Jesus Ortez:
“...a person I respect has been told that the A’s Ramón Laureano charged toward Alex Cintron because Cintron mentioned Laureano’s mother in a bad way. In Latino culture, those are fighting words.”
A’s Manager Bob Melvin, while not excusing Laureano’s behavior, defended his center fielder.
“Ramón doesn’t go over there unless something completely offensive comes out of that dugout,” Melvin said.
