Dave Henderson, Tony Phillips to be remembered at A's opener

When the A's play their season-opener Monday night against the White Sox, the most touching moment might come before the game when the children of Dave Henderson and Tony Phillips throw out the first pitch.

Henderson, 57, and Phillips, 56, both died during the off-season. They were popular players on the 1989 team that swept the Giants in the World Series. Henderson played center field and Phillips played everywhere. That season he appeared in at least one game at every position but center, pitcher and catcher. He mostly played second and flipped Brett Butler's grounder to closer Dennis Eckersley at first for the final out of the World Series.
