KANSAS CITY, Mo. — With longtime Stanford head coach Mark Marquess retiring after this season, his successor remains a mystery.
There’s a decent chance, however, that whoever takes over the program will have some A’s ties.
At the top of Stanford’s wish list, according to several sources, is onetime Stanford and A’s catcher A.J. Hinch. He would be a tough get because he already has a high-profile job — manager of the Astros — but one source said the thinking is major Stanford donor John Arrillaga would “break the bank” for Hinch.
