Chris Bassitt looking to get in on A’s starting rotation battle

MESA, Ariz. — The A’s return to spring training with the final three spots in the starting rotation completely up in the air. Jharel Cotton, Daniel Mengden, Paul Blackburn, Andrew Triggs, and Daniel Gossett are the expected competitors, but one forgotten A is looking to add his name to the bunch.

Not too long ago, Chris Bassitt found himself in the A’s rotation. Bassitt pitched in 18 games in 2015, 13 of which were starts, and posted a 3.56 ERA. He earned a starting job out of spring training in 2016, but after a poor first five starts that saw him get pummeled to the tune of a 6.
