Chapman progressing with knee infection

CHICAGO -- A's rookie Matt Chapman remained in the hospital Friday with a left knee infection but has made "significant progress," according to manager Bob Melvin.

Melvin, whose club began a three-game series against the White Sox on Friday, said Chapman could potentially be released Saturday. The A's placed him on the 10-day disabled list Thursday, retroactive to Monday, and he's expected to return when eligible June 29.

"He's better today and making some progress," Melvin said. "He'll stay in there tonight, for sure, and hopefully out tomorrow."

The scare arrived just four days into Chapman's Major League career.
