OAKLAND — Chris Herrmann needed just two at-bats to make an impression on his Oakland A’s teammates.
The catcher, following a 60-day IL stint to begin his first year with the A’s, had an Oakland debut to remember, mashing a go-ahead grand slam off All-Star Minnesota Twins pitcher Jake Odorizzi to boost the A’s to an 8-6 win on Tuesday night.
Herrmann’s slam came on a 1-1 fastball, effectively booting Odorizzi out of the game with no outs in the fourth inning. Those six runs (five earned) were the most the Minnesota ace has allowed this season.
