Mustaches are an iconic part of Oakland A’s history, dating back to the championship days of the 1970s when the green and gold basically invented wearing facial hair in Major League Baseball. The Rollie Fingers handlebars are the most famous example, but there have been many more over the years, up to the present day with Daniel Mengden’s similar twirl.
Last week, A’s mustache lore got its newest chapter, when Matt Olson showed up with some newly trimmed whiskers. He proceeded to homer in his very first at-bat with his new stache, and three times in his next five plate appearances.
