SAN FRANCISCO – A’s center fielder Billy Burns left Friday’s game against the Giants with what was announced as a testicular contusion.
In a sequence that must have been every bit as painful as it looked on TV, Burns fouled a ball off in the third inning that bounced up and hit him in the groin area. Trainer Nick Paparesta and manager Bob Melvin went out to check on him for several minutes. Burns stayed in the game and hit an RBI groundout to first.
But in the bottom of the fourth, Sam Fuld shifted over from left field to replace him and Mark Canha entered in left.
